Goals to Make For Your Skin in 2022

Resolutions, goals, intentions. Whatever you call it, most of us think about changes we might want to make when we start a new year. While these might typically be focused on diet or exercise, we encourage you to think in terms of overall health and wellness, and that certainly includes your skin!

We are dedicated to helping our patients look and feel their best through personalized treatment plans. Dr. Rodgers and his experienced staff provide treatments for the entire spectrum of skin conditions, from the common to the rare.

So what can you do for your skin this year, and how can we help?

Set Goals for Your Skin in 2022

One of the most important things you can do for your skin is scheduling an annual appointment with Dr. Rodgers for a routine skin exam. While he can check and assess your skin for many issues, this is also crucial for the early detection of skin cancer. Skin cancer is the most common form of human cancers, affecting more than one million Americans every year. One in five Americans will develop skin cancer at some point in their lives. But skin cancer is easily treated when detected in its earliest stages.

Aside from scheduling a routine skin exam, what else can you do for your skin this year? Here are some other ideas:

Commit to daily cleansing. Washing your face should be a non-negotiable step in your skincare routine. Vow to cleanse twice a daily (morning and evening) before you put your makeup on for the day and before you go to bed. Choose a cleanser appropriate for your skin type and skin conditions. If you need help finding the proper products, we are happy to help.

Make moisturizing a priority. Cleansing is the most important step in any skincare routine, but moisturizing is a close second. Keeping your skin hydrated is the key to ensuring that it looks and feels its best. When your skin is properly hydrated, you’ll have fewer issues with excess oil and breakouts, and it will improve the visible signs of aging like fine lines and wrinkles.

Change your pillowcase regularly. Your pillowcase can harbor bacteria, and it collects oil, dirt, and sweat while you sleep. Sleeping on a dirty pillowcase can worsen existing skin concerns or trigger new ones, so replace your pillowcase every two to three days.

Always wear sunscreen. During the colder months, sunscreen is often forgotten about or overlooked. But wearing sunscreen is one of the best things you can do for your skin, no matter the time of year. Always protect your skin with broad-spectrum sunscreen SPF 30 or higher.

Clean your cell phone. Also often overlooked, cell phones also collect dirt, oils, and germs since you are constantly touching objects, touching your phone, and then putting your phone to your face. Wipe your phone down regularly to remove build-up, and this can help with break-outs!

Tackle teenage conditions. The teenage and pre-teen years can be rough, especially when kids start to develop acne. The best course of action is to meet with Dr. Rodgers early and form a plan from the beginning. He is an expert at working with teenagers, as well as younger children on pediatric dermatology issues, so don’t put these appointments off any longer.

Try something new for your skin. Whether it’s trying Botox for the first time, getting a facial, or trying out a cosmetic laser service, try something new this year! You will likely enjoy the experience and love the results of these cosmetic dermatology services that can leave your skin looking fresher, rejuvenated, and glowing.
